Week 1

Woodwind Family Facts:

  • Not all woodwind instruments are made from wood! Some are made from brass, silver and even from pottery.

  • Not all instrument made from wood are members of the woodwind family. The violin and the piano are both made from wood but are not woodwind instruments.

  • A woodwind instrument is one where sound is produced by splitting air on a sharp edge such as a reed or a "fipple".

  • There are two main types of woodwind instruments - flutes and reeds.
