Not all woodwind instruments are made from wood! Some are made from brass, silver and even from pottery.

Not all instrument made from wood are members of the woodwind family. The violin and the piano are both made from wood but are not woodwind instruments.

A woodwind instrument is one where sound is produced by splitting air on a sharp edge such as a reed or a "fipple".

There are two main types of woodwind instruments - flutes and reeds.
