Week 6:
This week we look at music notated using a graphic score instead of regular notation.
Listen to the first 40 seconds of this video and
try to follow the music on the score below. You might recognise this music!
Then see if you can follow the same music
when written using "graphics".

In this lesson you are going to create your own graphic score.
Your piece of music that you are going to compose (and notate on a graphic score) is going to be about a thunder storm.
You will need to think about what sounds you might hear in a thunder storm (e.g. rain, thunder, wind) and decide what symbol you want to use to represent them and how you are going to create a suitable sound. In the classroom we will be using anything that we can find, such as tapping fingers on the desk to make the sound of rain.
Then you will need to decide what order the sounds come in to create your piece of music. Show this on a graphic score.
Watch the two videos on the right. The top one helps explain what to do and the bottom one is an example that somebody else has done.
When you have finished composing your piece, play it.
Finally, watch this video (below) where the composer shows the pitch direction but the player chooses what notes to play.
