Adrian Taylor - Trombonist

Adrian began playing the trombone at the age of 11 having played the trumpet and cornet for a few years previously. He played in his local county youth orchestra, wind band and jazz orchestra as well as with local brass bands. Adrian moved to Birmingham in 1986 to study music at the University of Birmingham with trombone lessons at the Birmingham School of Music with Reg Reid and Denis Wick. He remained in the midlands after graduating, playing trombone with various professional orchestras and ensembles including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, English Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra da Camera, Royal Shakespeare Company, Fine Arts Brass Ensemble and Cambrian Brass Quintet as well as with a number of local brass bands. He was a member of Brass Pages Quintet, In-Slide-Out trombone quartet and for two years played with the Natal Philharmonic Orchestra in Durban, South Africa. Adrian often plays for a number of theatre companies across the midlands and is a member of English Trombone Consort.

Adrian has since starting university conducted a range of musical ensembles, including orchestras, wind bands, brass bands, jazz bands and brass ensembles. He is currently conductor of Birmingham Schools' Wind Orchestra and is regularly invited to conduct or coach other groups. Highlights include conducting over 400 trombonists at Symphony Hall in Birmingham for the International Trombone Festival, a massed wind band in the Adrian Boult Hall for his own arrangement of Pictures From An Exhibition and massed brass bands for his arrangement of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture in Tamworth.

Adrian Taylor - Instrumental teacher

Adrian has been teaching children to play all brass instruments for over 25 years. He has taught children as young as 5 years old through to university and music college students. Many of his students have gone on to study music at degree level and now work with music related jobs or play as a hobby with outstanding amateur groups.  Adrian has written his own educational material, which include a brass tutor book, trombone study books, numerous arrangements for beginner bands and several web-based music projects.  He currently teaches music at Twycross House School and is lower brass teacher at Repton School.

Adrian Taylor - Composer/Arranger

Adrian has been composing or arranging music since the age of about 12 years old. A number of his compositions and arrangements have been published and some commercially recorded. He was commissioned by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music to compose some short ensemble pieces for the Music Medals and Warwick Music publish many of his trombone quartet arrangements, junior brass band arrangements, junior wind band arrangements and trombone study books. He has arranged and composed a number of pieces for Birmingham Schools' Training Brass Band (when he was conductor of that group), for brass band (when he was conductor of Burton Music Centre Brass), for brass ensemble (when he was conductor of Regents Brass), for orchestra (when he was in South Africa with the N.P.O.), for trombone ensembles (for work with music services) and mostly now for wind orchestra (as conductor of BSWO). To mark 25 years of working with the music industry, Adrian wrote two trombone study books (Simple Studies on Trombone Technique and Melodic Studies on Trombone Technique) and recently completed his Advanced Studies on Trombone Technique book.
